India takes the first step in becoming the World’s App Eco-System.

“This challenge is for you if you have such a working product or if you feel you have the vision and expertise to create such products. I urge all my friends in the tech community to participate”, remarked Prime Minister in the tweet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on July 4 launched the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat App innovation Challenge’ through his official Twitter Account in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics & IT and Atal Innovation Mission-Niti Aayog.

Why has it been launched?

The challenge comes after India banned 59 Chinese Apps in a strategic move to ensure secure cyberspace. The challenge has been launched to instill enthusiasm and encourage tech geeks to create world-class apps ‘Made in India’.

This step will further incentivize a digitalized and self-sufficient Bharat. Jio Meet is one such example of a successful Indian App that has been launched by Mr. Mukesh Ambani on Thursday evening.

What all comes under it?

The Challenge primarily has 2 broad categories, Promotion of Existing Apps and Development of New Apps. It has been further categorized into 8 categories:

  1. Social Networking
  2. Office Productivity and Work from Home
  3. E-Learning
  4. Health and Wellness
  5. Entertainment
  6. News
  7. Business including FinTech and AgriTech
  8. Games

How will it be judged?

A Jury of experts from all tracks has been appointed to evaluate the entries. The judgement will be based on:

  • Ease of Use (UI/UX)
  • Robustness
  • Security
  • Scalability

On getting further shortlisted they will be featured on the leader boards that can be viewed publically. The apps will also be getting help and guidance to maturity. The apps will also get listed on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), and the prize money will range from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh.

“India has a lot of vibrant tech and startup stories, which has done India proud nationally as well as globally. Our youngsters have excelled in providing tech solutions across sectors,” the Prime Minister vocalized.

How will it benefit us?

As per what the Prime Minister stated the outcome of this challenge will be to give better visibility and clarity to existing apps to achieve their goals and to create tech products to find solutions to tech conundrums with the help of mentorship, tech support, and guidance during the entire life-cycle.

This will help us create more home-grown apps, resulting in an Aatmanirbhar App Eco System. It will also improve the job opportunities within the country. It will also help India in becoming the new App Eco-System in the world. This move might also introduce to the world the traditional games of India, as games have been quite the hype. Having local apps will also make sure that there is no data breaching.
